Default Clutchless upshifting

I posted this on the cycle canada forum and it produced a lot of 'passionate' arguments for and against.
I have read motorcycle magazine testers writing about it, I do it sometimes, my question is, do you think that upshifting without the clutch occaisonally is hard on the transmission? It seems to slip into gear on my bike very cleanly, no grinding, etc.
Do you do it, and what is your opinion?

I have also upshifted without the clutch on occasion and seemed to have no issue. Hard on the transmission? well that depends... If it is done smoothly with not too aggresive of an RPM I don't think it is going to cause any detrimental effects. That being said, they build these machines with a clutch for a reason and unless you are attempting to "power shift" to reduce the time that the rear wheel isn't under full power, why else would you clutchless upshift on a regular basis??

As Rocket says if you do it smoothly & carefully you should have no problems, 7 years ago I broke my clutch cable on the Reversing Falls bridge & had to ride to Lakewood Hieghts in 5:00 oclock traffic, to this day my tranny is still good.

Now that sounds like a ride that would make the old sweat pour from the helmet, lol...
